PostSubject: The adventures of Autumn and Levi: Part 6, Goodbye [p r i v a t e--To Stephy]    Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:55 pm

Levi had been dreading this day, ever since the event in Ireland. The sun was just barely rising, casting an odd orange color over the city. On the couch, his black suitcase was open, articles of clothing and a few other things stuffed inside. The only things left were his wallet, and journal. Then, he'd be good to go. Sighing, he opened the notebook to a blank page, ripping it out. Absently, he tossed the journal onto the clothing, and removed a pen from his pocket. Sitting, he began to write.

Dear Autumn, by the time you read this, I'll be gone. I'm going home. I've caused you too much trouble, and I'm sincerely sorry. Please, don't look for me. Thank you, for everything. Ireland, the clothes, all of it. I'm not one for farewells, so I'll keep this short. I've left fifty dollars, I know it's not much, but it's all I could gather.

He tapped the pen on his chin for a moment, unsure of how to wrap it up. So, instead of a long exit or anything like that, he simply wrote it like he felt it; Love, Levi. Sighing again, he opened his wallet, sat the money on the note, and stuck it back into his pocket. Then, with one final glance over the room, he shut the suitcase, cleared his throat, and quietly crept from the apartment, not wishing to disturb it's now-alone inhabitant. He couldn't help but stare at the door for a moment, debating whether or not he wanted to go inside again. It's for the best. With that thought in his head, he trudged away from the building, bowing his head in guilt.

Autumn awoke at around 11:00am. Because of their last stressful days of Ireland, she decided that she would sleep in for once in her life. She yawned, finding it enjoyable to be awoken by sunshine and not her alarm clock. Stretching her arms, she winced. She had to get stitches, multiple ones, in her leg and abdomen. However, other than that, it was just a bunch of scrapes and bruises. She was sore, but she'd heal. Autumn winced as she rose from her bed. She dressed slowly, not wanting to tear her stitches. After she had finished, she hobbled into the bathroom and did her morning routine. Bathroom break, brush hair, wash face, attempt to brush hair, the usual. Everything seemed like a normal day...until she stepped out into the living room.
The bed was folded and everything seemed...clean. Usually she walked in and Levi was sprawled across the couch, but today, nothing. Autumn's gaze flickered to a piece of paper on the table and her stomach twisted into knots. Lifting the note, she read its contents.
Tears began to well up in Autumn's eyes and she shook her head vigorously. She knew he wanted to leave, but to actually see his things gone and read the note was a pain she didn't even, couldn't even imagine. Autumn clenched her fists and sat down in a nearby chair, wanting to compose herself. 'It's not like it's forever... You're the one that encouraged him to go,' she silently scolded herself. Despite all of this reason, Autumn was heartbroken. Her best friend, her only friend, was gone. The tears that she was holding in poured out over her cheeks and she buried her face in her hands. "I didn't even get to say goodbye.." she murmured.
After moping in her self pity Autumn shook her head and gently slapped her cheeks a few times. "Don't be a stupid girl, Autumn. You got along fine without him before, it's no different now. Besides, he's with his family and he'll be happy...that's what's important.." she said, now talking to herself once again. Autumn struggled to her feet and dried her eyes on sleeve of her sweatshirt. With a deep breath, she trudged towards the door, determined to continue as though nothing was different.
She was in a constant daze all day long. She may have been performing her daily tasks, but her mind was elsewhere for all of it. She barely even got dressed. She was wearing nothing more than the sweatshirt she slept in and a pair of jeans. Before she knew it, it was dark. Autumn was out at night.

The Vampire Lester pulled at his hood, making sure that it concealed his face like a shadow in the darkness. With a discreet smile on his face, he silently padded through the alleyways, as quiet as a snake. This was the normal night for him; go out, hunt, and then return before sunrise. Sunrise. A scowl crossed his face, thinking of the horrid light. Just a few seconds out after the sun had risen, and he'd be nothing more than a pile of ash. The Vampire didn't much fancy that thought, either. It was funny, really. How evolved the Vampires were, yet how primitive they remained; they were somewhere between the angels and animals they feared. Lester was interrupted from his thoughts, however, when a honey-like, sweet scent wafted towards him. Freezing, he took in another deep breath, realizing the smell to be a supernatural aura; it was very familiar, as well. Squinting attentively, he glanced around, before it came back to him. The Shapeshifter; yes, that was it. Levi's little friend, he knew. The name escaped him, but the hatred was still there. She had morphed into the wolf, if he remembered correctly. Clenching his fists, he crept forward, following the scent. He had sworn his revenge; he would enact it, too.

                  ---------------------------------

Meanwhile, somewhere in Virginia, Levi stood alone on a riverbank, a few stones in his hand. He was amazed at how far he'd gotten on foot just in the first day. Especially with a suitcase to carry. That suitcase was currently laying on a patch of nearby grass, open. Sighing, Levi tossed a stone towards the water, hoping that it would skip once or twice. Instead, it smacked the top of the liquid, before sinking downwards quietly. Pursing his lips, he dropped the rest of the rocks, turning his on his heels and trudging back towards the suitcase. Sitting down by it, he shifted, finding a comfortable position. Then, laying back, he stared up at the stars, a frown on his face. Folding his arms behind his head, and closed his eyes, attempting to sleep. It was an impossible task, however. There was a picture that remained in his mind, the face fresh and unmistakable; it was going to be a rather long night.

                  ---------------------------------

Turning another corner, Lester's eye were immediately drawn to the girl. "Ahhh," he mumbled to himself, seeing that she was alone. Standing, he moved a little closer, just out of arm's reach. "Hello there." With that, Lester allowed an odd, if not creepy smirk to cross his lips. "I do believe we have a bit of unfinished business."

Autumn jumped at the familiar and chilling voice. She scowled, turning to Lester. He made her skin crawl, but she was determined to hold her ground. She let out a wolf-like growl. There were too many people around to change shape without causing a scene. "What do you want?" she snapped. Her fists were clenched so harshly that her knuckles were white. Autumn stared at Lester, hoping that the crowd would stop him from doing anything. "Look, can't we just say that I was defending myself and call it even? Because I've had a really crappy day and I don't need this right now," she said. She was far more hostile than she usually was, though considering her last week, it was understandable.

Lester was a bit agitated when she growled, but he held his ground. He assessed the situation; there had to be a reason for her bad day. Grinning, he realized what the cause must have been. Besides, her and Levi were always together, and now he was gone. Besides, if he was wrong, he'd just use brute force to get her. "Well then...Autumn? I'm sure that's your name. Levi would definitely like to see you. He's been begging." An evil smile spread across his face, and he crossed his arms. He wasn't sure if it would work, but he would judge her expression, and see what happened. If she objected, he'd simply launch forward. It was one of the other.

Autumn stiffened and clenched her fists. Had that been what happened? Though it appeared that the note was written in Levi's handwriting..but maybe they forced him to write it. Or maybe he intended on leaving but was snatched up before he could get out safely. Either way, he was gone, so it was better safe than sorry. Autumn's expression darkened and she closed the distance between her and Lester in a few long strides. She clenched the fabric of his shirt in her fist and scowled. "What did you do to him?" she spat, curling her lip in disdain. People were giving them strange looks, but that didn't matter to her at the moment. "If you hurt him, if you gave him one scratch, I will rip you apart limb from limb, burn you to pieces and rain your ashes down like confetti," she growled, narrowing her eyes. She had to admit, for how terrified she was, her threats were still spot on.

"Nothing yet," he said, a victorious grin on his face. "Come with me, and you may see him again. If you do not, or if I don't return...let's just say that my boys will be having a feast tonight." Letting silence take over for a moment, he remained in her grip. "Do as I say, Autumn. You like the boy, don't you? If nothing else, you don't want him to die. Am I correct?" He smiled at her, waiting for a reply. It was obvious that Levi was a sore spot for her. All he had to do was keep up the espionage, and redirecting the questions.

Autumn's jaw tightened and she released his shirt, taking a step back. Her eyes lost their anger and grew sad. "He's my best friend, the only one I have.." she replied, averting her gaze. The girl shook her heand and turned her, once again, stern gaze to Lester. "If I go with you and..." her voice trailed off and she swallowed, shaking her head. "If I go with you, will you let him go and promise to never harm him again?" she pleaded. Levi had to be safe, that was her biggest priority. She was of no importance to the world. A simple shapeshifter drifting through life as a purposeless blob. She had seen all she wanted to see for more than a lifetime, but Levi? Levi hasn't even started his adventures yet. If it came down to it, in her mind, he deserved to live and she deserved to die.

Lester planted his feet firmly on the ground. "Of course," he agreed, nodding and attempting to keep his voice in a reassuring tone. "We'll let him go, and we won't go after him again. He'll be off our agenda." He nodded again, and waved towards the alley. "Follow," he said, simply, and began walking. Sheer luck, he told himself. It had worked, just as he thought it would. Of course, they didn't have Levi, like he had told her. This would be a perfect way to get to him, though. Besides, Autumn wasn't who he truly wanted. In all reality, Lester envied Levi. He could survive normally, in sunlight, and without any enemies. The thought made him sick. Although... He glanced back at the girl, and grinned. He had always wondered what a Shapeshifter's blood tasted like.

Autumn did as she was told and followed the vampire without another word. IT made her uncomfortable, willingly following the person who was probably going to kill her... But whatever she could do to save Levi, she would. Autumn tried not to think about her upcoming death. Silently, she hoped it wouldn't be too painful... Though that probably wasn't even an option. When he grinned at her, she shuddered. The shapeshifter contemplated turning back, but that probably wouldn't do much good. Levi would most likely die and she would not live much longer. Sucking in a deep breath, she continued to follow the vampire, trying to hide her fear as best she could.

                  An hour or so later...

"You'll never believe," Lester said with glee, speaking into his cell phone, "we have your friend!" Turning, he strode a few paces across the concrete floor. At the moment, Lester and the other Vampires were stationed inside of an abandoned hotel basement, where it was dark and damp. An angry voice rang from the phone, causing Lester to pull it away from his eat. "Yes, that's right, the Shapeshifter. Anyways, we have some business to get to. Bye." Without waiting for a reply, he closed the phone, sliding it back into his pocket. The plan had gone off without a hitch; kidnap Autumn, lure Levi back, and the kill him. After that, they'd have a little treasure for themselves. He'd probably keep the Shapeshifter for a while, because he had always heard they had blood like honey. A thin, eerie grin spread across his features. He couldn't wait.

                  ---------------------------------

In Virginia, Levi had been awoken from his light sleep by the ringing of his new cell-phone. Odd, he thought. Nobody even knew his number. Or did they? He hadn't been exactly sure, his mind still jumbled from his very strange dreams. It had been, in fact, Lester. With him, he brought the worst news Levi had heard in the last ten years of his life; they had captured Autumn. "Listen here," he began, fuming, but stopped when the connection was immediately broke. He had hung up. Despair in his eyes, Levi launched the phone into the still-open suitcase. Angrily, he kicked it close, bending to close the latches. "Dammit, Autumn." Lifting the storage bag up, he glanced backwards at the dark, harsh dirt path he had taken to get here. Bowing his head, he began walking.

                  ---------------------------------

"Ah, perfect, perfect." Turning on his heel, Lester glanced at one of his goons, grinning widely. "Oh yes, he's definitely coming. He didn't sound too happy when I told him the news. Oh well, it happens. Now, let's see what she thinks about this situation..."

Autumn thrashed and kicked at the chains that shackled her to the wall. Normally, she would simply change shape and escape from this prison, but she was tired. During her capture she had put up quite a fight, enough that wore out her energy enough to make any drastic shape change impossible. She let out a loud, angered scream. "Damn it! You promised! You swore you wouldn't bring him here! Just leave him be!" she pleaded. She could feel her voice cracking from screaming, but she continued, despite the fact that her screams were probably going unnoticed. "Just leave him alone!" she bellowed. Autumn tried to change her shape to something small. A mouse, or a bird, but it was useless. Just as the silver light enveloped her form, it faded instantly. She was hardly recovered from the attack in Ireland, as well as losing what strength she had left in the tussle before hand. Autumn shut her eyes tightly, clenching her jaw. She silently prayed to whatever higher power would listen that Levi wouldn't come. That he'd continue on his way and leave her here. She was going to die either way, but he could be safe. 'Please...don't come!' she thought, as though her thoughts would do some good...

"Oh shut up, you poor thing." Lester shook his head, speaking the words with little to no sympathy. "I have to say, this is quite all your fault though. You knew who I was before you came with me. You knew I was no good. You didn't listen to yourself, however. Like I said, your fault." He nodded, and smirked at her. "Now I have to make a decision; should I wait until the daylighter gets here, and then make an example by feeding on you, or shall I sample a bit now?" He glanced at the ceiling, cupping his chin in thought. Leaning against the wall across from her, Lester crossed his arms, sighing. "About what you said, "leave him alone" and all that nonsense. Did you seriously think that I wouldn't hold through on my threats? I swore that I'd kill you both, and I certainly will. Now we just wait until you're little friend arrives." Smiling dryly, he yawned a bit, staring at the girl. "At the moment, I do believe I'm growing a bit impatient, and thirsty."

Autumn let out a wolf-like growl. 'Good to know I still have energy for that..' she thought. She pulled and yanked at her chains, but it was no use. "You lying, evil son of a..." she spat, thrashing in her prison and causing the metal around her to rattle. She tried to act bravely. She tried to hide her fear by letting out another snarl, but she was still terrified. She scowled at him, scrunching up her face in disdain. "Go suck on a juice box!" she screamed. It was a strange insult, not one of her better ones, but it was all that she could come up with at the moment.

                  The next night...

Levi crept silently through the shadows, sticking close to the walls. He had learned from a few local Vampires where Lester was currently living, with his goons; and Autumn. He had no doubt that the girl wouldn't be very happy about him coming back to retrieve her. She had never been excited about putting him in harm's way. Levi didn't care though. He would always come back for her, until she was safe enough for him to be contempt. Spotting the empty hotel where they had taken refugee, he darted across an alley, slipping in through a darkened doorway. Pinning himself to the brick wall, the Vampire sucked in his breath, nearly giving himself away. Directly in front of him was four Vampires, three of which were asleep. They were sprawled out on worn mattresses, the last one sitting up and drinking from a dirty mug. Curling his lips back in disgust, Levi glued himself to the corners, walking noiselessly towards the basement entrance. As quickly as he had come in, he slipped through the second doorway, finding himself on a concrete staircase. Peering through the eerie darkness, he spotted a few more figures, all of which were slumped against the walls in sleep. Nodding, he accepted the stroke of luck, and glanced around for Autumn. Seeing the only figure that appeared feminine in shape, he decided to take his chance. Hurrying down the stairs, staying quiet of course, he rushed to her, examining the figure. As he had thought, it was Autumn. "Psssst," he hissed, glancing around anxiously.

Autumn jumped awake from her sleep when she heard a whisper. She looked up in bewilderment, staring wide eyed at the source of the sound. Levi. Even after only being there for a little over a day, almost two, she looked awful. She was covered in dirt and grime as well as being smeared in dried blood from her struggle down to this point. "What are you doing?! Get out of here, you idiot!" she hissed, keeping her voice as low as possible. She tried to gesture Levi away without rattling her chains, but it wasn't very successful. "Please, please get out!" she pleaded, looking up at him with sad eyes that were begging him to go back the way he had came.

Levi jumped a bit as she spoke, glancing around and making sure that nobody had noticed. "No," he said, his voice firm. He couldn't tell her part of the true reason that he had come to save her; he was tired of being the one that sat back, and watched her fight all the battles. He wanted to get in on the action, and be her savior, instead of vice versa. The second was... Levi pushed away the thought, returning to what needed to be done. "Where is he? Lester?" he questioned her, grasping her arm. "Don't tell me to leave again, either. Is he here? Answer me." He kept his voice low, yet stiff.

Autumn stared at him, pursing her lips. She sucked in a breath through her nose, letting it out slowly before she shook her head. "No, he goes out at night...He should be returning soon though. But Levi, it's not safe. I can't let you get hurt," she whispered, looking up at him hopefully. She hated herself for this. This was her fault, Lester was right. But she couldn't risk not going with the vampire if he really did have Levi... Autumn looked down at the ground, furrowing her brow. "You should have said goodbye to me," she whispered. Looking up at him she frowned. "You should have said goodbye to me and then when Lester said that he had you held captive I wouldn't have had to..." her voice trailed off and she averted her gaze, shaking her head. Autumn looked up at him again, clenching her fists. "Please, Levi...if you care about me at all just get out of here. In another day or so my energy will be back enough for me to shapeshift. I'll be able to escape and I'll move out of this city and I'll be fine. I can't handle it if something bad happened to you...So just leave and go be with your family," she pleaded, keeping her voice hushed.

Levi stared at her for a moment, frowning. "No," he repeated, sensing that his reply needed nothing else. Hurriedly, he searched for the one item he had brought with him; a large pair of lock cutters. With enough force, he may have been able to cut through her chains. "Autumn," he began, taking charge of the situation, "listen to me. I'm going to cut your chains, then we're going to run like hell. If I get caught up, go on without me. I'm tired of you saving my ass. I owe you." Silently, he grasped her hand, squeezed it, and retrieved the cutters again. Swallowing, and hoping that she would do just as he had asked, he slid one of the chair loops between the two blades, and put as much force as could on the handle, squeezing it tightly. He hoped that Lester would continue staying away from the place; if not, then they would have a fight on their hands, and Levi was certainly tired of that.

Autumn winced, averting her gaze as she awaited for the chain to snap. The metal broke with a pop, but she silently hoped the guards wouldn't hear or would only think that one of the prisoners was making a ruckus. Autumn grabbed her free wrist with her other hand and abruptly rose to her feet. She set the broken chain down quietly. She felt like celebrating, but they weren't completely free yet. They still had to escape. 'What I wouldn't give to be able to shape shift right now..' she thought, bouncing silently on her toes.

"Come on," he whispered, pulling at her arm and gesturing at the stairs. "Quickly." As he spoke to her, however, one of the Vampires groaned, shifting in his sleep. For a moment, Levi thought that he had woken up. Turning on the guard, he propped his foot back, ready to take any necessary actions needed. Seeing that he had only been roused momentarily, however, he stopped, inhaling deeply. "Let's go," he said, waving her after him. As quickly and silently as he could, he snuck past the sleeping Vampire, mounting the stairs and glancing back to make sure she was still following.

Autumn followed behind Levi. She attempted to stay as quiet as she could, though she wasn't as swift and light on her feet as her friend. Not to mention the fact that she was injured, she was also a klutz. She shut her eyes, wishing that she could change shape. Though she knew she'd be unable to do so, she pictured herself as a mouse. She imagined herself as being as light as a feather with tiny mouse feet. Though her shape didn't change, it helped her to stay focused on being quiet.

When he neared the top of the stairs, a few unfamiliar voices drifted towards him. Stopping abruptly, he foot slid back, striking the stair below him and making an unfamiliar sound ring out. Cursing himself, he listened for any sign that they had heard him. For a moment they chatted absently about their hunt, until they gave notice to the out-of-place noise. "Did you hear that?" "It's probably just the Shapeshifter. Ignore it." He heard the first one grunt in agreement, lucky for them. Lifting his head, he glanced through the doorway, seeing the two that had just arrived. The exit was directly across the Levi and Autumn, and they could have just run. Besides, it was nearly dawn, and the sun would obliterate any Vampires that stepped outside. Glancing back at Autumn, he thought about something. What if she couldn't run? She didn't appear to be in the best condition. He looked back to the Vampires, who were now looking through the backpacks and pockets of the other ones, whom were sleeping. Their backs were now turned to the two escapees, and Levi thanked fate. "It's nearly daylight," he informed her, his voice almost inaudible. "Run, run as fast as you can. I'll be right behind you." He moved over, so that she'd have a straight shot off of the stairwell and to the exit.

Autumn glared at Levi, though she didn't dare to say anything. How could he tell her to go? Did he know her at all? 'Just leave! He's asking you to! You'd ask him to do the same!' her inner voice of reason told her. Autumn contemplated her choices, wondering what the best option would be. If she left, she'd be fine and there's a chance Levi would be too, but there's also a chance that Levi would be hurt while she got off safely. If she stayed with him, the chances of them both getting out, or even just one getting out, were slim. Sucking in a breath through her nose she slowly nodded her head. Grabbing Levi's hand and rising up on her toes she planted a small kiss on his cheek and gave his hand a squeeze. She then started towards the door in a galloping limp, trying to stay as quiet as she could.

Levi beamed for a moment, watching Autumn run for the door. The next moment, he came to his sense, and returned to the real world. Sprinting after her, he gained a new sense of hope that hadn't been there for the past few days. They were going to make it. They would escape, without anything hindering or being an obstacle for their escape. Everything would be-- a figure loomed in the door, causing Levi to gasp, and stop abruptly, but not before he could reach out for Autumn to pull her away from it. "You!" the figure hissed, stepping into the building and showing itself to be Lester. He snickered viciously, crossing his arms. "I knew you'd come, you fool. Ever since the day you showed your face back in New York, I knew I'd be your bane. Now it's time you faced death, Levi." Leaving his words at that, he reached over and retrieved a metal pole he had no doubt placed there consciously a few hours before.
